3-star linebacker Matthew Weerts commits to Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats continued their recruiting hot streak Monday, adding a commitment from three-star linebacker Matthew ‘Mojo’ Weerts.

247Sports ranks Weerts as the No. 1,415 player and No. 58 linebacker in the 2021 class. He is listed at 6-foot-2, 221 pounds and attends Batavia High School in Batavia, Illinois.

Weerts also had offers from Boise State, Air Force, Army, Navy and other mid-majors. He racked up 86 tackles (8.0 for loss), two interceptions and 2.5 sacks as a junior. He had seven sacks as a sophomore when he played defensive end.

Weerts is Arizona’s ninth 2021 commit and seventh on defense, all of whom have pledged since May. The class now ranks 70th in the country and sixth in the Pac-12, though Arizona’s average commit ranks 10th in the conference.
