While student-athletes will be able to return to campus in June for voluntary workouts, the NCAA a Division I Council Coordination Committee announced Wednesday that it has extended the recruiting dead period through July 31 due to the coronavirus.

The dead period prohibits college coaches from all sports from making in-home visits, hosting recruits on campus and evaluating them at summer events. Coaches can still communicate with prospective student-athletes, but only electronically.

“The extension maintains consistent recruiting rules for all sports and allows coaches to focus on the student-athletes who may be returning to campus,” Council chair M. Grace Calhoun said in a statement. “The committee is committed to reviewing the dead period again in late June or early July.”

The dead period has not slowed Arizona men’s basketball, which landed two more 2020 commits on Wednesday, giving them seven in the class. Five committed after the dead period was instituted in mid-March.

Arizona football landed both of its 2020 commitments during the dead period.
