If the Arizona Wildcats had someone taken in the 2020 NFL Draft, odds are running back J.J. Taylor would have been the first option. Instead, he had to seek out his own team after being one of hundreds of draft-eligible players not to get picked late last month.

He found that team in the New England Patriots, who signed him and 14 other undrafted players shortly after the draft ended. And of those 15 rookie free agents, Taylor is set to be among the best compensated.

Taylor is guaranteed to earn at least $100,000 over the course of the 3-year contract he signed with the Patriots, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. That includes a $7,500 signing bonus, which is tied for fifth-most among New England’s UDFAs, while his guaranteed money is tied for third-most.

Taylor is one of several running backs under contract with the Patriots, others being Sony Michel, James White, Brandon Bolden, Rex Burkhead and Damien Harris.
