Arizona WR Jamarye Joiner to undergo foot surgery

NCAA Football: Arizona at Stanford D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Jamarye Joiner is undergoing foot surgery on Tuesday, according to his mother.

Joiner was a non-participant in Arizona’s one week of spring ball back in March and the word around camp was that he had suffered a Jones fracture.

If that’s true, then per healthline.com, “If you have surgery, you might have to wait 1 to 2 weeks before putting any weight on the injured foot. Some surgeons may allow you to put weight on your heel right away, but not on the front of your foot. In some cases, you may have to keep weight off the injured foot for as long as six weeks. After that, you may need to wear a removable walking boot. Even after you’re allowed to put weight on the injured foot, you’ll still need to wait 3 to 4 months before returning to regular activities, including sports.”

The site added that “athletes who return to play too soon might experience a break along the same line as the former fracture.”

Joiner was a big part of Arizona’s offense in 2019, his first year as a receiver. The converted quarterback hauled in 34 passes for a team-high 552 yards and five touchdowns. That included a monster game at ASU in the season finale in which he had seven catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
