Arizona softball transfer Vanessa Foreman lands at Louisiana-Lafayette

Vanessa Foreman’s time with Arizona softball is over, but her chance of pitching in a Women’s College World Series is not.

It was announced recently that the sophomore left-hander is transferring to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she will be immediately eligible. The Ragin’ Cajuns were the No. 8 team in the country when the 2020 season was canceled because of the coronavirus, and are expected to be one of the top teams in the country again in 2021.

Foreman spent two seasons at Arizona, logging 9.1 innings in four appearances. She allowed six runs (five earned) while striking out six and walking two. All those innings came in 2019. She redshirted in 2020.

Before enrolling at the UA, Foreman had a decorated career at Gahr High School in Lakewood, California, where she went 11-2 with a 1.05 ERA as a senior, leading her team to a 24-6 record and league title. She was also a top-60 recruit and a PGF All-American in travel ball.

Foreman also pitched for Team Israel in Olympic qualifiers last summer, where she was coached by UA softball director of operations Stacy Iveson.

“Vanessa (Foreman) brings us a great competitor in the circle who wants the ball in big moments,” UL coach Gerry Glasco said in a statement. “In addition to bringing us a talented left-handed arm to our bullpen, she gives us a wealth of experience gained from experiencing elite championship competition while playing with the top organizations on the west coast. She was one of the top pitching prospects in her high school class due to her tremendous success – winning and competing in national championships for the best teams and coaches on the west coast for several summers.

“I’m thrilled to add such a gifted performer to our squad. Vanessa is a tall and lanky hurler who can really pitch. She can also get up in on the hands of batters when she wants to because of her combination of speed and the ability to both use and command the changeup.”

Foreman is one of five players who left the Arizona program this offseason, the others being utility Ivy Davis, pitcher/designated player Marissa Schuld and outfielders Jenna Kean and Carli Campbell.

Foreman is the only one who has announced her future intentions, though a report out of Lafayette said UL expressed interest in Davis as well.

The return of Arizona’s six seniors—plus Dejah Mulipola—made some roster movement inevitable.
