Arizona softball utility Ivy Davis to transfer to Tennessee, per report

Former Arizona softball utility Ivy Davis is transferring to Tennessee, according to Rhiannon Potkey of D1Softball.com. The junior has two more years of eligibility and should be able to play immediately.

Davis is one of five players who left the Arizona program since the season was canceled in March. With Arizona returning seven seniors and adding eight freshmen, some player movement was expected.

A Huntington Beach, California native, Davis turned in the best season of her career in 2020, hitting a career-high .305 with three homers, three doubles, three stolen bases and 13 RBI.

She started in 21 of 25 games at first base, the first time in her career that she got significant playing time at one position. Previously she was a super utility player, starting at seven different positions in her career—first base, second base, third base, shortstop, left field, right field and designated player. Her natural positions are second base, third base and shortstop.

Power-hitting Tucson High product Carlie Scupin, an incoming freshman, is expected to start at first base for the Wildcats next season, likely a reason Davis left the program. The rest of the infield is occupied by seniors.

Ironically, Davis had a big game against Tennessee in February, driving in two runs in an 8-0 destruction of the Volunteers. Her reverence for the Tennessee program was evident that night.

“That proves a lot, that we can come out against anybody and put up a good fight,” Davis said.

Historically, the Vols are one of the top programs in the country, but they have not appeared in the Women’s College World Series since 2015 and went 14-9 in 2020.
