The Colorado Buffaloes appear to have finally found their next head coach, and it’s someone with ties to the Pac-12 Conference from long before they were part of it.

Colorado is zeroing in on ex-UCLA head coach Karl Dorrell to replace Mel Tucker, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports.

The 56-year-old Dorrell spent the 2019 season coaching wide receivers for the Miami Dolphins after holding the same position with the New York Jets from 2015-19. Since 2008 he’s spent 11 of 12 seasons in the NFL.

Dorrell coached UCLA from 2003-07, going 35-27 overall and 24-18 in Pac-10 play. He led the Bruins to a 10-2 record and a third-place finish in 2005 and won at least six games in every season on the job.

Tucker bolted for Michigan State earlier this month after one season at Colorado, where he went 5-7.

Dorrell went 3-2 against Arizona while with UCLA, going 1-2 in Tucson. The Wildcats host Colorado on Oct. 9.
