Arizona guard Aari McDonald out vs. Utah with injury, could return Sunday at Colorado
Arizona Wildcats star guard Aari McDonald will miss Friday’s game at Utah due to a lower leg injury. The UA is officially calling her day-to-day and it is hoped she can return Sunday at Colorado. It is the first time McDonald has missed a game at Arizona.
Freshman guard Helena Pueyo is starting in her place, though she will be difficult to replace. McDonald, eighth in the country in scoring, has eclipsed double figures in 62 straight games, the longest active streak in the nation, and also sets the tone defensively, leading the Pac-12 in steals.
Still, the Wildcats have the talent and depth to win without her, especially since neither Utah nor Colorado are particularly good. The Utes (12-13, 5-9) are tied for seventh in the Pac-12; the Buffaloes (15-10, 4-10) are eighth.
Friday’s tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Wildcats (21-4, 10-4) are hoping to finish the regular-season on a high note so they can earn a bye in the Pac-12 Tournament and finish as a top-16 overall seed in the country, which would grant them the right to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
They checked in at No. 11 in this week’s AP poll.
