The Arizona Wildcats overcame a four-run deficit to beat Southern Illinois 6-5 on Friday afternoon at the Tony Gwynn Legacy tournament in San Diego.

Arizona (4-1) trailed 5-1 after the Salukis scored five times in the top of the third inning off starter Garrett Irvin but scored five runs over the next three frames. The Wildcats took the lead during a 3-run fifth in which Jacob Blas had an RBI double, Branden Boissiere had a run-scoring single and Blas stole home for the go-ahead run on a double steal with Boissiere.

Irvin picked up the win to improve to 2-0 despite allowing five runs and seven hits, striking out six and walking two. Vince Vannelle and Gil Luna then struck out four apiece during consecutive two-run appearances in which neither allowed a baserunner, with Luna earning the save.

Austin Wells and Mac Bingham each had three hits and a solo home run for Arizona, which has won 14 of its last 15 games dating back to last season.

The Wildcats continue play in the Tony Gwynn Legacy Saturday at 2 p.m. MT against Iowa, then face Nebraska on Sunday to wrap up the tournament.
