One of Arizona’s top recruiting targets signed with the Buffaloes
Well, this is awkward.
Three days after publicly turning down the Michigan State head coaching job, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Mel Tucker has...accepted the Michigan State head coaching job.
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic broke the news late Tuesday night. (Who says #Pac12AfterDark can’t happen in February?)
Tucker, who spent just one season in Boulder, will replace longtime MSU coach Mark D’Antonio who stepped down last week.
BREAKING: #CU coach Mel Tucker has agreed in principle to become the new head coach at #MichiganState, per sources. After Tucker turned down initial interest, MSU power brokers came back repeatedly to Tucker’s reps w/ an offer that was impossible to ignore https://t.co/qjOH0qKirQ

This is obviously relevant to the Arizona Wildcats for a couple reasons. First, the Buffaloes are a Pac-12 South rival and appeared to be on the upswing with Tucker at the helm, their 2020 recruiting class ranking 35th in the country. Now they face an uncertain future.
Second, Arizona’s top recruiting target, Jason Harris, the four-star defensive end from Gilbert who has several family ties to the UA, signed with Colorado over Arizona.
Who knows if he will even try to reopen his recruitment—Colorado would have to release him from his National Letter of Intent—but it is at least something to keep an eye on as the Buffaloes go through the hiring process.
