The defensive line was a major disappointment for the Arizona Wildcats during the 2019 season, despite a concerted effort to beef up that group with junior college transfers. Now comes another transfer to the group, though one with Division I experience.

Aaron Blackwell, a nose tackle from New Mexico, announced Saturday that he is coming to Arizona for his final season.

The 6-foot-3, 298-pound Blackwell started 17 games for the Lobos from 2017-19 after starting his career at Mesa Community College. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in New Mexico’s 2019 opener but received a medical redshirt to earn an extra year of eligibility. As a graduate student, he will be eligible to play immediately.

Blackwell, who was an honorable mention all-Mountain West selection in 2018, played under new Arizona defensive line coach Stan Eggen while at UNM.

Arizona has now added two grad transfers to the 2020 roster, the other being former Oregon wide receiver Brenden Schooler (brother of UA linebacker Colin Schooler).
