Arizona at Washington State: How to watch, what to expect

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: JAN 10 Women’s Oregon State at Arizona

The road trip to play Washington and Washington State is always a tough one. Last season, it was especially difficult for the Arizona Wildcats.

A furious snow storm forced the coaches to make the call. Would the game be played or would it be cancelled? Arizona State made the decision to cancel their game against Washington. Feeling that they needed the game, Arizona opted to head to Pullman, but arrived very late.

The Cougars were ready and waiting. Borislava Hristova went off for 37 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Chanelle Molina tossed in 28 points, nine assists, three rebounds and a block. Alexys threw in another 12 points, and the Cougs won 90-88.

“Last year, they kind of crushed us on back screens,” sophomore post Cate Reese said. “I think we’re a little bit more experienced this year, so I don’t think that will be as big of an issue for us....So it’s just important that we focus on the goals that we want to achieve. And we have to win the games to be able to get those goals so we just have to work hard and be disciplined.”

What will still be an issue for the Wildcats is the combination of Hristova and Molina. Both are back this year for WSU. “Bobi Buckets,” as Hristova is known, became the all-time leading scorer for the Cougars on Jan. 5. She’s leading the team with 19.2 points per game. She adds

Molina won Pac-12 Player of the Week on Jan. 6 after having a big weekend in the Bay Area. She averages 16.2 ppg and shoots 42.4 percent from the 3-point line. Molina also averages 4.3 assists per game.
