Arizona women’s basketball moves up to 20th in latest AP Poll

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NOV 29 Women’s UC Riverside at Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats women’s basketball team jumped four spots, from 24th to 20th, in the latest AP Poll that was released Monday.

The Wildcats are 7-0 with an averaging scoring margin of 30.7. They routed UC Riverside 70-27 on Friday in their only game of the week. Arizona set single-game records for fewest points and fewest field goals (9) allowed.

The Wildcats have won their first seven games of the season for the first time since 1999-00. This season marks the first time they have been ranked since 2004.

Arizona currently ranks 19th in the country in offensive rating (108.5) and third in defensive rating (64.8). The caveat is that they have only faced one major-conference team so far (Texas).

Redshirt junior Aari McDonald is ninth in the country in scoring (21.3 ppg) and No. 1 in the Pac-12.

The Wildcats return to action Monday when they host Monmouth at 6:30 p.m MST. They then head to El Paso for a clash with UTEP on Saturday.

Other Pac-12 teams ranked in the AP Poll: Stanford (1), Oregon (3), Oregon State (5), and UCLA (11).
