3-star defensive end Regen Terry commits to Arizona

During his postgame press conference following the Arizona Wildcats’ Territorial Cup loss to rival ASU on Saturday night, coach Kevin Sumlin mentioned he was going to be spending his Sunday in the homes of several in-state recruits. “Two in particular,” he added.

If Regen Terry’s living room was among those that Sumlin spent time in on Sunday, his visit apparently did the trick.

Terry, a 3-star defensive end from Florence, committed to Arizona on Monday, giving the Wildcats a much-needed prospect at a position that was sorely lacking in production this season.

Rated by 247Sports as the No. 843 player in the country, as well as the 37th-best weak-side defensive end and No. 20 prospect in Arizona, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Terry picked Arizona over Boise State, Boston College, Kansas, Nebraska and Utah. His father, Reggie Terry Sr., is on the BC football staff but that school just fired head coach Steve Addazio, while his older brother, Reggie Terry Jr., is a redshirt sophomore defensive end on the Eagles.

Terry made his official visit to Arizona for the Nov. 23 loss to Oregon, the same time that the Wildcats’ other top in-state target, 4-star Higley defensive end Jason Harris—Jalen Harris’ little brother—was in attendance.

“Intriguing build with long arms and strong lower half,” 247Sports’ Blair Angulo wrote on Terry’s profile. “Carries 230 pounds with ease and room to add bulk. Flexible edge rusher who thrives in one-on-one setting. Physical upside to grow into every-down lineman. Good first-step agility and ability to put blockers in tense situations quickly. Strong initial punch and ability to bend around the corner. Does well to wrap up in the backfield. Could improve pad level consistency and block-shedding technique. Potential multi-year starer at the Division I level with upside to garner looks from NFL Draft scouts.”

Terry is Arizona’s 14^th known commitment in the 2020 class and first to pledge since 3-star German tight end Roberto Miranda committed on Oct. 14.

Arizona’s defensive line massively underperformed in 2019, despite the additions of junior college tackles Trevon Mason and Myles Tapusoa. The Wildcats were last in the Pac-12 with 17 sacks and their 54 tackles for loss were second-worst in the conference.
