Lakers to hire former Arizona walk-on Quinton Crawford as assistant coach, per report

The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring former Arizona Wildcats walk-on Quinton Crawford as an assistant coach, according to Brad Turner of the LA Times.

Crawford spent the 2018-19 season as the Charlotte Hornets‘ head video coordinator. Before that, he had the same role with the Orlando Magic when Lakers head coach Frank Vogel was in charge.

Crawford graduated from Arizona in 2013 with a general studies degree. He was part of UA basketball for two seasons (2013-15), appearing in nine games. The Wildcats went 50-20 over his two years and made it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2013.

After graduating from Arizona, Crawford spent two seasons as a graduate manager at Pepperdine, where he earned a master’s degree in educational psychology. The Old Bridge, New Jersey was then an assistant video coordinator for the Sacramento Kings for a season, before joining the Magic.

UA alum Miles Simon is also on the Lakers’ staff in a player developmental role.

Former Wildcats Steve Kerr (Warriors), Jud Buechler (Knicks), Bruce Fraser (Warriors), Joseph Blair (Sixers), Bret Brielmaier (Nets), Matt Brase (Rockets), and Luke Walton (Kings) are also coaching in the NBA in some fashion.

Jason Terry might be the next to join them.
