Wildcat Wrap: Arizona’s women’s teams are thriving

It’s Monday, so it’s time to recap another week of all things Arizona Wildcats. Let us know in the comment section if we missed anything.

Women’s Basketball

Softball

Baseball

  • The ‘Cats ended their seven-game losing streak by sweeping Washington, a huge series for an Arizona team that was floundering.
  • The Wildcats are now 16-14 overall and 5-7 in the Pac-12 as it heads to Phoenix to play GCU on Tuesday, before a home series against Cal.

Women’s Golf

Men’s Tennis

  • Arizona got its first conference win since 2014 with a 4-0 over Washington on Friday. It’s also the first win over UW since 2003.
  • News broke on Sunday morning of the passing of former coach Bill Wright. Wright was the coach from 1986-2005 and is in the ITA Tennis Hall of Fame.

Soccer

Beach Volleyball

  • The Wildcats went undefeated in Tempe, with wins over Abilene Christian, No. 7 Cal Poly, Utah and ASU.
  • Arizona, ranked 14th in the country last week, is currently 17-4. Natalie Anselmo and Madison Rigdon are 13-0 as a duo.

Women’s Tennis

  • The ‘Cats beat No. 42 Denver 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. It’s the second time this season UA has defeated a ranked team, and it’s the first time they’ve defeated two ranked teams in a season since 2014.
  • UA hosts Oregon on Friday.

Track and Field

  • The men’s and women’s team took third at the Jim Click Shootout. The men scored 134 and the women at 132.5. Jordan Geist was named the Men’s Athlete of the Meet, and James Smith set the Arizona freshman 400-meter hurdle record with a time of 50.29.
  • The team is in San Diego on Friday for the Triton Invitational.
