Arizona softball uses big second inning to destroy Utah

Arizona softball continues to tear through the Pac-12.

The Wildcats scored 12 runs in the second inning as they run-ruled Utah 22-1 on Saturday to extend their winning streak to 13 games.

Arizona (31-7) improves to 11-0 in conference play, with eight of those wins coming via run-rule. The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 93-9 in conference play.

Arizona peppered 19 hits, including five homers, in Saturday’s win.

Jessie Harper hit a grand slam to kick off the explosive second inning, which was immediately followed with back-to-back homers by Dejah Mulipola and Malia Martinez.

Jenna Kean, Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza, and Reyna Carranco had RBI hits before Martinez capped off the inning with a two-run single.

Arizona added five more runs in the third for good measure. Hannah Martinez ripped a two-run triple, Palomino-Cardoza had an RBI groundout and Mulipola clobbered her second homer of the day.

Arizona rounded out its scoring in the fourth when freshman Izzy Pacho hit her first career homer.

Alyssa Denham started and allowed one run in three innings of work, before being lifted for Gina Snyder who pitched two 1-2-3 innings.

It was the first time UA allowed a run in conference play since March 23 against Oregon State.

The Wildcats will go for the sweep Sunday at 11 a.m. MST.
