Washington senior Noah Dickerson ‘day-to-day’ with ankle injury ahead of game at Arizona

Injuries are a part of sports, something the Arizona Wildcats are well aware of considering their recent spate of physical setbacks. They also know they’re not alone in this area, as the injury bug may even be affecting their next opponent.

The Washington Huskies could be without senior forward Noah Dickerson when they bring their 9-0 Pac-12 record to McKale Center on Thursday. Dickerson sprained his right ankle in the second half of Saturday’s home win over UCLA and his status for the Arizona game is uncertain, coach Mike Hopkins said Tuesday:

The 6-foot-8 Dickerson is averaging 12.7 points and and a team-high 6.8 rebounds for Washington, which is 18-4 and off to its best start in conference play in 65 years. He scored 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting against the Wildcats last year in a last-second win in Seattle.

“I saw his injury, it looked like it could be problematic for him,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said. “But he’s an older guy, he’s got a lot of pride. I’m sure if he’s able to play I think he will. We’re just going to assume that everybody on their roster is going to play, that’s usually what happens. If he’s not going to play we’ll adjust.”

Arizona will be without at least one key player for the Washington game, as freshman guard Brandon Williams is out indefinitely due to pain in his surgically repaired right knee. Williams missed last week’s overtime loss at ASU, a game that saw junior center Chase Jeter return after missing two-plus games with a back injury but play at “40 to 50 percent,” per Miller.

Also, senior point guard Justin Coleman has played the entire Pac-12 slate despite dislocating his left shoulder in practice prior to the conference opener.
