Territorial Cup clash between Arizona and Arizona State slated for afternoon kickoff

Let there be light. Daylight, that is.

For the first time in more than two years, the Arizona Wildcats will be playing a home game prior to the sun setting. The Territorial Cup on Nov. 24 against the Arizona State Sun Devils will kick off at 1:30 p.m. MT, ending a streak of 15 consecutive games at Arizona Stadium that started at 6 p.m. or later.

The game will be shown on Fox Sports 1.

This will be the second year in a row and fourth time in five years that the Territorial Cup has been during the day. The 2014, 2015 and 2017 editions were afternoon affairs, with ASU taking the last time in Tempe and Arizona winning 42-35 at home in 2014.

Arizona has won the last two matchups in Tucson.

Beyond the normal bragging rights, this year’s Territorial Cup could have a lot more riding on it. Depending on how things go this coming weekend, the Arizona-Arizona State winner could be the Pac-12 South Division champion and have a spot in the conference title game Nov. 30 in Santa Clara, Calif.

The game could also mean the difference between going bowling and having the season over for Arizona, which at 5-5 needs one more victory to be bowl-eligible. The Wildcats play at No. 8 Washington State on Saturday, a game in which they are heavy underdogs to the Cougars.
