Wildcat Wrap: Arizona soccer, volleyball enjoy winning weekends

All the latest regarding Arizona Athletics

Editor’s note: Every Monday we will be recapping the week that was around the UA athletic department in a feature called the Wildcat Wrap. Here is our first rendition of the year.

Summer is fading away and fall is blowing in, which means the Arizona Wildcats are back in action.

While most fans are salivating to see the UA football team on Saturday night against BYU, other sports are already bearing down on the field, court and links. Let’s see how they are doing. (If we missed anything, we encourage you to add it in the comment section below!)

Soccer

Volleyball

  • The ‘Cats started off their season by taking the championship at the Hornet Invitational by going 3-0. After beating CSUN and Utah State on Friday, they capped it off with a four-set win over host Sacramento State on Saturday. Senior outside hitter Kendra Dahlke was named the tournament’s MVP after posting 67 kills and 35 digs, while Devyn Cross and Julia Patterson also made the all-tournament team.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Paige Whipple had eight kills in six sets, as she works her way back from an umbilical hernia.
  • The Cats are back on the court this weekend in their home debut in the Cactus Classic. UA hosts Lipscomb on Friday morning.

  • Former Wildcat Kevin Newman got his first MLB hit.

  • Former UA outfielder Ashleigh Hughes graduated from the police academy.
