How Arizona’s commits performed in Week 1
Let’s see how UA’s commits performed for their schools this week
Football season is back!
The Arizona Wildcats are gearing up for their first contest of the season against BYU next Saturday. And while the team prepares, the future of the program took to high school fields across America Friday.
Let’s take a look at how each commit faired in their respective game. (This story will be updated when/if stats become available.)
Grant Gunnell, QB, St. Pius X
Result/Score: N/A
School Record: N/A
Game Stats: N/A
Season Stats: N/A
Notes: Gunnell’s Panther team has yet to play a game. Their first contest will be next Friday.
Next Game: at Beaumont United, Aug. 31
Kwabena Watson, OLB, Edison
Result/Score: Neutral site victory over Clovis West, 41-35
School Record: 1-1 (0-0)
Game Stats: Unknown
Season Stats: Unknown (have yet to be posted)
Notes: Edison bounced back from the shellacking they received at the hands of Central last week and won against Fresno-area Clovis West. Watson hasn’t had any stats posted but check out the clip of him harassing the CW QB. He comes barrelling off the edge, blows up the OL, and chases the QB. He is No. 1.

Maurice Gaines, CB, St. Thomas More
Result/Score: N/A
School Record: N/A
Game Stats: N/A

Notes: St. Thomas More has yet to play a game.
Next Game: vs Unknown, Sept. 8
Jalen Johnson, WR, Eleanor Roosevelt
Result/Score: Home victory over Glendora, 48-21
School Record: 2-0
Game Stats: Unknown
Season Stats: 1 rec, 15 yds (note: this does not include his stats from Friday)
Notes: Johnson’s stats haven’t been posted, but he had a bounce-back game. Digging through everything, it appears he had at least two touchdowns, one of 40+ yards and the other being 79 yards. He is probably the tallest person on the field and looks exactly like what Arizona is looking for on the outside.

School Record: 2-0
Game Stats: N/A
Season Stats: N/A
Notes: Morgan’s first two games of the season have been solid. Our own Gabe Encinas saw him last week and liked Morgan’s potential. This week I was told he looked “Damn good. He’s eating up Fairfax’s d-line.” Check out some highlights of Morgan in action from one of our contributors, Christopher Boan. (Morgan is wearing No. 77.)
Fun fact: Morgan is coached by former Arizona Wildcat offensive lineman Kyle Quinn.

Notes: I am unsure if Leone has played a game. I’ve been unable to find anything.
Next Game: Unknown
Kyle Ostendorp, P, Desert Vista
Result/Score: Away victory over Carlsbad, 33-21
School Record: 2-0
Game Stats: Unknown
