4-star PG James Akinjo to officially visit Arizona

The former UConn signee will reportedly be on campus next weekend

Four-star point guard James Akinjo will officially visit the Arizona Wildcats the weekend of April 19, a source tells Corey Evans of Rivals.com.

The 6-feet, 160-pound product from Salesian High School in Richmond, California is the No. 95 player in the 2018 class and No. 17 point guard, per 247Sports composite rankings.

Akinjo initially signed to play for the UConn Huskies, but he was released from his National Letter of Intent after the school parted ways with now-former head coach Kevin Ollie.

As we outlined earlier, one of the Wildcats’ biggest areas of need is a guard who can create offense, and Akinjo may be able to fill that role.

But Arizona will have plenty of competition for him, as he has also set up official visits with Tennessee and Georgetown, according to 247Sports.

Overall, Arizona still has six scholarship slots available and its recruiting efforts are picking up steam.

The Wildcats landed four-star shooting guard Devonaire Doutrive last Saturday — their first 2018 commit — and are hosting Lithuanian big man Lukas Kisunas for an official visit next weekend.

Like Akinjo, Kisunas was originally a UConn signee.

Arizona’s recruiting class currently ranks 101st in the country, but it would jump to 46th if it lands Akinjo, per 247Sports’ class calculator.

If the Wildcats land both former UConn signees, they would leap to 28th.
