Arizona Wildcats’ NFL Draft hopefuls work out with Cardinals

Will any of them get selected?

We’re just over a month away from the 2018 NFL Draft and former Arizona Wildcats are now in the process of scheduling individual workouts with prospective employers.

The UA had a handful of NFL Draft hopefuls head up I-10 to Tempe to workout at the Arizona Cardinals’ practice facility.

Offensive lineman Gerhard de Beer, outside linebacker DeAndre’ Miller and running backs Zach Green and Nick Wilson were all hosted by the Cardinals for workouts.

Gerhard de Beer is a big wild card for Arizona. The 6-foot-7, 315 pound right tackle entered Arizona with no technical knowledge of football, and has been an intriguing prospect because of his raw talent and size.

DeAndre’ Miller’s career was underwhelming due to his injury history, which is a shame with his potential and 6-foot-3, 236-pound frame. When he was healthy, he could get to the quarterback and make plays. His best season came as a redshirt sophomore, where he registered 50 tackles (8 for loss) and two sacks.

Zach Green really proved to be a pivotal piece of the offense, banging out 312 yards on 66 carries, finding the end zone 11 times. He has an upcoming workout with the Los Angeles Chargers as well.

Nick Wilson, much like Miller, was also plagued by injuries. Wilson broke out as a true freshman and helped lead Arizona to the Fiesta Bowl. His production went down his sophomore and junior years, missing 11 games, leaving many games early, too.

His senior year served his body well, balancing a three-headed attack with JJ Taylor and Zach Green. He finished his Arizona career 7th all-time in rushing yards (3,034) and 3rd in touchdowns (33).

There has been no word on workouts for safety Dane Cruikshank or offensive lineman Jacob Alsadek as of late.

Cruikshank had himself a strong combine performance, and was worked out by the Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Teryl Austin at Arizona’s Pro Day. That workout with Austin was “a grueling set of position drills, and by all accounts he looked terrific.”

Mock drafts and draft experts have graded Cruikshank anywhere from as high as fourth round to seventh round, but for the most part seems to be included in mock drafts. However, the same was said about Paul Magloire last season, and he went undrafted to the Tampa Buccaneers.

A good problem Cruikshank has right now is that teams prefer his size at safety, but also like his ball skills to play corner.

Jacob Alsadek was the starting right guard a the East-West Shrine Game and participated in Arizona’s Pro Day. That’s the last we’ve heard about the four-year starter.

Tyrell Johnson is finishing off his track career at Arizona. He is currently competing in the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, CA. He finished first in the Men’s 100-Meter Dash with a 10.70 time and third in the Men’s 200-Meter Dash at 21.33 seconds.
