Ernie Kent: Arizona ‘easily’ has three first-round picks on its roster

The WSU coach has good reason to think that

The Arizona Wildcats slaughtered the Washington State Cougars 100-72 on Wednesday thanks to a stellar performance by their Big 3 — Allonzo Trier, Deandre Ayton, and Rawle Alkins.

Trier had 25 points, shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the field.

Ayton had 24 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks on 11-of-12 shooting.

Alkins had 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in just 16 minutes. Both him and Trier made all four 3-pointers they took.

WSU coach Ernie Kent was impressed by the trio, to say the least.

“That is one of the most dominant teams in college basketball,” he told reporters afterward. “There are easily three first-round draft picks on that team.”

Well, Kent is right about at least one thing — that Arizona is one of the most dominant teams in the sport right now.

The Wildcats have won seven games in a row, and 16 of their last 17. Only the Purdue Boilermakers are hotter from a win-loss perspective.

His second point, though? Eh.

Ayton will surely be a first-round NBA Draft pick, possibly even the top overall pick. But Trier and Alkins are currently projected to be second-round picks by most scouting services, including DraftExpress.

Though, that would probably change if they keep playing like they did against WSU.
