Rob Gronkowski (concussion) cleared to play in Super Bowl 52

The former Wildcat will suit up against Nick Foles and the Eagles on Sunday

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has cleared concussion protocol and will play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 52.

The former Arizona Wildcat’s status was in doubt after he exited in the first half of the AFC Championship Game after suffering a major hit to the head from Jacksonville Jaguars safety Barry Church.

But, alas, Tom Brady’s No. 1 target will be good to go in Sunday’s big game. Gronkowski fully practiced Thursday after being limited Wednesday.

“Officially got the word today that I was cleared,” he told the media Thursday. “So it was super nice to hear from the doctors going through the whole process and I’m ready to roll.”

This will be Gronkowski’s third time playing in the Super Bowl. He missed last year’s Super Bowl because of a back injury which the Patriots won anyway.

Like usual, Gronkowski has been arguably the best tight end in football this season, hauling in 69 passes for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns in 14 regular-season games.

Gronkowski then had eight catches for 61 yards and a touchdown in the AFC Divisional Round against the Titans and one catch for 21 yards before exiting against the Jaguars.

The Patriots, who also have former Wildcat Marquis Flowers, take on former UA quarterback Nick Foles and the Eagles on Sunday in Minneapolis at 4:30 p.m. MST on NBC.
