Arizona falls to No. 17 in AP Poll

The Wildcats drop four spots after splitting a home series against the L.A. schools

After splitting a home series against UCLA and USC, the Arizona Wildcats have fallen to No. 17 in the latest AP Poll.

That is four spots lower than they were ranked last week.

Arizona lost 82-74 to UCLA on Thursday, but rebounded with an 81-67 win over USC on Saturday.

Here is the new poll in its entirety:

  1. Virginia Cavaliers (30)
  2. Michigan State Spartans (21)
  3. Villanova Wildcats (9)
  4. Xavier Musketeers (5)
  5. Cincinnati Bearcats
  6. Purdue Boilermakers
  7. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  8. Ohio State Buckeyes
  9. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  10. Auburn Tigers
  11. Clemson Tigers
  12. Duke Blue Devils
  13. Kansas Jayhawks
  14. North Carolina Tar Heels
  15. Saint Mary’s Gaels
  16. Rhode Island Rams
  17. Arizona Wildcats
  18. Tennessee Volunteers
  19. Wichita State Shockers
  20. West Virginia Mountaineers
  21. Texas A&M Aggies
  22. Michigan Wolverines
  23. Oklahoma Sooners
  24. Nevada Wolf Pack
  25. Arizona State Sun Devils

More importantly, the Wildcats were pegged as the No. 15 team in the country — and a No. 4 seed in the West — by the NCAA Tournament selection committee on Sunday.

Arizona (20-6, 10-3 Pac-12) only has one game this week — a rivalry matchup against ASU (18-6, 6-6) in Tempe. The Sun Devils have re-emerged in the Top 25 after sweeping USC and UCLA.

The Wildcats hold a two-game lead atop the Pac-12 standings with only five to play.
