Ken Niumatalolo staying at Navy, no longer a candidate for Arizona, per report

Arizona will have to look elsewhere for its next head coach

Ken Niumatalolo is staying at Navy and is no longer considering the Arizona Wildcats head coaching vacancy, according to FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman.

Niumatalolo was reportedly offered the position and had been mulling it over the last couple days.

It is unclear where Arizona will go from here, but Cal offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin, Arizona defensive coordinator Marcel Yates, and UCLA offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch are thought to be in the running for the job.

Candidates like Kevin Sumlin and Mark Sanford Jr. appear to be possibilities as well.

Niumatalolo went 84-48 in 10 seasons at Navy, but there were some concerns about how his triple-option philosophy would translate to Power Five football.

UA star quarterback Khalil Tate had tweeted “I didn’t come to Arizona to run the triple-option” before deleting it.

Arizona will need to move swiftly to hire its next head coach, since National Signing Day is less than a month away.
