Arizona’s Brandon Williams, Shareef O’Neal are McDonald’s All-American nominees

Cate Reese made it on the women’s side, too

Arizona Wildcats signees Brandon Williams and Shareef O’Neal have been nominated for the 2018 McDonald’s All-American Game, it was announced this week.

They are two of about 700 players (male and female) to receive the nomination.

Cate Reese, another Arizona signee, was nominated on the girls side.

The top 24 boys and top 24 girls will be chosen by the games’ selection committee, and the final rosters will be revealed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Williams, a 6-foot-2 point guard, is the No. 33 player in the 2018 class. The Encino, Calif. product is averaging 22.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists this season coming off knee surgery.

O’Neal, a 6-foot-9 forward from Santa Monica, Calif., is the No. 31 player in his class. Both he and Williams signed with Arizona back in November, but inked non-binding financial aid paperwork so they can still sign elsewhere if they so choose.

They are the only two signees in Arizona’s class, which ranks 34th in the country.

Reese, a 6-foot-3 forward, is a five-star recruit ranked No. 14 in her class by ESPN. The Cypress, Texas native is the highest ranked prospect Arizona women’s basketball has ever signed.

Reese was also recently named to the 2018 Naismith High School Girls’ Midseason Team.

She is averaging 29.8 points, 14.6 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for Cypress Woods High School. Reese has three 40-point games this season and recently eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her career.

She is one of five recruits Arizona has signed in its 2018 class, which ranks No. 5 in the country, according to ProspectsNation.com.

Arizona has signed 22 McDonald’s All-Americans with Deandre Ayton being the most recent one. But Reese has a chance to become the first the Arizona women’s basketball team has ever signed.

The girls’ McDonald’s All-American Game will tip at 5 p.m. March 28 on ESPN2. The boys’ game will tip at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
