UCLA vs. Arizona: Wildcats players of the game

Taking a look at the UA players that stood out in their 47-30 manhandling of UCLA

The Arizona Wildcats picked up a much-needed win Saturday, beating the UCLA Bruins 47-30 for Rich Rodriguez’s first victory over the boys from Westwood in six tries.

The ‘Cats had a great night offensively, tallying 605 yards. They also racked up 457 rushing yards, the most allowed by UCLA this year.

With that, let’s dive into UA’s players of the game.

Offense

Khalil Tate, QB

Game Stats: 9-for-13, 148 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT; 15 car, 230 yds, 2 TD

I mean, I’m not sure if I need to say much....AGAIN. Tate had two beautiful deep passes to Shun Brown and Tony Ellison. He hit Trevor Wood in the end zone to where only he could grab it.

Running wise, Tate turned a busted play into a 71-yd touchdown run. He also had a scoring run of 45 yards in the first quarter.

The offense and team as a whole has a different feel to them when he is in and it is starting to show.

Defense

Kylan Wilborn, STUD

Game Stats: 5 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 4.0 sacks, 1 forced fumble

To start off, four of Wilborn’s five tackles were tackles for loss/sacks. He was incredibly disruptive and was a major pain in Josh Rosen’s side. His relentless pursuit and quick burst through the line of scrimmage showed.

Wilborn also forced a fumble, stripping Soso Jamabo, which was then recovered by Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles.

Special teams

Lucas Havrisik, K

It was honestly a struggle for the special teams unit Saturday night. Havrisik was the lone bright spot for the unit.

He knocked seven of nine kickoffs for a touchback.

Honorable Mentions

Nick Wilson, RB

22 carries, 135 yards, 2 touchdowns

Wilson and J.J. Taylor’s performances helped Tate and the offense more than anyone has acknowledged.

Offensive Line

They did an much, much better job of opening up holes for the running backs to find and be more effective. They have had some issues this season creating running lanes, but this was not one of those times.

Jace Whittaker, CB

2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 pass breakup

Whittaker played darn near perfectly Saturday. He had a timely pick in the end zone to halt a promising UCLA drive. His second INT was a pick six and came at another important time for the ‘Cats in the second quarter. His pass breakup also saved a touchdown.

Dane Cruikshank, S

6 tackles, 1.0 TFL, 1 interception

Cruikshank had a solid game and was all over the field. His best play though was his victory sealing INT.
