Arizona football: Aiulua Fanene signs with Green Bay Packers

Fanene is the second member of Arizona’s 2016 team to find an NFL home

Former Arizona Wildcats defensive lineman Aiulua Fanene has found himself a home in the NFL, as he has signed with the Green Bay Packers, according to his agent Aaron Gordon (no, not that Aaron Gordon).

The 6-foot-5, 308 pound Samoan had 15 career tackles (12 solo) in 26 games at Arizona, all of which were tallied last season.

The Packers bring in Fanene as depth for their defensive line, as their third round pick, Montravius Adams, recently underwent foot surgery and will be missing some time, according to reports.

This is Fanene’s second stint with the Packers, as he was invited to their rookie mini-camp after going undrafted in April.

Afterward, Fanene was invited to Indianapolis for a three-day rookie mini-camp tryout with the Colts.

Before the draft, he worked out with the Arizona Cardinals

Fanene is the younger brother of former Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots defensive end Jonathan Fanene, who is currently unsigned.

Fanene and Paul Magloire Jr. are the only two members of Arizona’s 2016 team on NFL rosters.

Magloire is recovering from groin surgery, and will be on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ injured reserve list for his rookie season.

NFL teams are currently permitted to carry 90 players on their rosters, but must cut down to 53 in time for the start of the regular season.
