Arizona basketball: Kory Jones out for season with torn ACL

The sophomore walk-on suffered the injury during Arizona’s Spain tour

Arizona Wildcats guard Kory Jones will miss the 2017-18 season with a torn ACL, Sean Miller told Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star.

"I'm disappointed for him for sure, but he's handled it really well," Miller told Pascoe of Jones. "I'm glad it happened at the end of the trip and we were able to get him home."

Jones, a sophomore walk-on, suffered the left knee injury in the Wildcats’ second, and final, exhibition in Spain, a 99-74 win over the Mataro All-Stars.

Jones checked in with 1:07 left in the fourth quarter and got twisted up not too long after that, before needing to be helped off the court.

Jones was a late addition to Arizona’s roster last season when the team was in need of practice bodies after injuries to Ray Smith and Talbott Denny, who suffered torn ACLs of their own (plus Dylan Smith suffered a concussion).

Rawle Alkins (shoulder) and Emmanuel Akot (knee) were injured during the trip to Spain, too, but Miller told Pascoe that both are fine.

The Wildcats are expected to have plenty of depth in the upcoming season, but as we saw a year ago, it can evaporate quickly with untimely injuries and suspensions.

Hopefully for them, Jones’ injury isn’t a sign of things to come.
