Arizona football: Ka’Deem Carey out six weeks after wrist surgery

Carey had a strong preseason

The Arizona Wildcats’ all-time rushing leader, Ka’Deem Carey, underwent wrist surgery Tuesday, and will be out for roughly six weeks.

Carey opened preseason as the No. 4 running back on the unofficial depth chart for the Chicago Bears, fighting an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster.

But Carey was a pleasant surprise throughout preseason, contributing on offense and special teams. He has been praised for his high-motor and blocking for much of the offseason.

Carey carried the ball 10 times for 38 yards and picked up three first downs. He caught all three passes thrown his way for 14 yards. He also added one kick return for 19 yards.

Carey was selected in the fourth round, No. 117 overall, in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Bears. He signed a four-year, $2.6 million contract. Carey is in the final year of his contract, and is set to make $690,000.

In a backup role with the Bears, Carey has carried the ball 111 times for 443 yards and two touchdowns in his career. He also has 13 receptions for 131 yards and a receiving touchdown to his name.

At Arizona, Carey rushed for 4,239 yards in his three years, and holds the top two spots for single-season rushing yards.
