Steak ‘n Shake is coming to the University of Arizona

This is an important development

University of Arizona students are in for a pleasant surprise when they return to campus for the fall semester.

The Burger King in the UA’s student union is being replaced by Steak ‘n Shake.

Construction is ongoing (a photo of that is above), but the restaurant is expected to open in time for the new school year.

If you’re not familiar with Steak ‘n Shake, it’s a fast-food joint known for its hand-dipped milkshakes and “steakburgers”, as well as its 1950s-style atmosphere.

Sure, that sounds similar to Burger King, but Steak ‘n Shake is in the second tier of fast-food burger joints along with Whataburger and Five Guys.

Burger King is in the third tier with McDonald’s and Wendy’s (we all know In-N-Out Burger is the king of them all and that is totally a fact and definitely not an opinion).

And if you were like me and had a meal plan as a freshman, you know it’s always welcomed when a terrible dining option is replaced by a not-so-terrible dining option.

Steak ‘n Shakes generally offer 24 meal options for under $4 each (along with pricier options), but it remains to be seen if those will be offered at the UA location, seeing that prices in the student union food court are often higher than those in a traditional setting.

The UA’s Burger King once offered $3.99 meals, but the price eventually rose to $5.49 over a span of three years (don’t ask why I know this).

There were once rumors that In-N-Out Burger would be replacing Burger King, but I think UA students will gladly settle for Steak ‘n Shake — and maybe it will even help with recruiting.

Either way, former students are definitely jealous:

The only other Steak ‘n Shake in Arizona is on Mill Avenue near ASU in Tempe.

Will the UA try to one-up ASU and build its Steak ‘n Shake to be slightly larger than ASU’s like the Sun Devils did with their football stadium’s videoboard?

What else are rivalries for?
