College baseball rankings: Arizona moves up a couple spots after sweeping Washington

Also back into the top ten of the RPI

After a perfect 4-0 week, the Arizona Wildcats started trending the right way in the rankings again.

The Wildcats moved up two spots in the various media polls, putting them either 17th or 19th. They sit at 18th in the Coaches poll.

Arizona also moved back into the top ten of the RPI. Here’s a look at the various rankings:

“Man I don’t know,” head coach Jay Johnson responded when asked about getting back to .500 in Pac-12 play on Sunday. “To be honest with you, I don’t even look at the standings. I couldn’t tell you what place we’re in.”

“I do know getting three wins this weekend will only help us in regards to the standings and those types of things. I think it says a lot about (the players’) toughness.”

At 12-12 now with just two Pac-12 series remaining, Arizona is tied for fourth in the conference behind Oregon State, Stanford, and UCLA. The Bruins are the only team of those three not ranked above the Wildcats in the human polls. OSU is the consensus No. 1 team in the country for the seventh consecutive week, and have a magic number of 2 to clinch the Pac-12 title.

U of A essentially has a week-long break from conference play this week though. They will host ASU for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday night before flying out to South Carolina to play three games against College of Charleston.
