Always Dreaming wins the Kentucky Derby

A second Derby win for Arizona grad Todd Pletcher

For the second time in his career, University of Arizona grad Todd Pletcher has a Kentucky Derby win.

One of three horses he trains entered in the event, Always Dreaming, was up front the entire race and pulled away at the end to take The Run for the Roses.

Arizona grads swept the high profile races at Churchill Downs this weekend. Bob Baffert won the Kentucky Oaks on Friday with Abel Tasman.

Pletcher and Always Dreaming now move on to The Preakness Stakes to attempt what Baffert did with American Pharoah two years ago, win the Triple Crown.

The Preakness will be run in two weeks on March 20th.

Pletcher had two other horses in the Kentucky Derby. Taprwrit finished 6th, and Patch finished 14th.
