Arizona basketball: Kobi Simmons set to enter 2017 NBA Draft and hire an agent, per report

Not that surprising

It looks like Kobi Simmons will be a one-and-done with the Arizona Wildcats.

Evan Daniels of Scout.com reported Wednesday that Simmons is not expected back in Tucson next season and the freshman plans to enter the 2017 NBA Draft.

Daniels also reports Simmons plans to hire an agent, which would officially end any possibility of him returning to Arizona.

Simmons is widely considered to be a second-round selection. DraftExpress.com currently projects Simmons will be picked 51st overall by the Denver Nuggets, and his athleticism, size, and shooting ability makes him an intriguing prospect at the next level.

The Georgia native averaged 8.7 points per game with the Wildcats, shooting 39.5 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from 3 in his freshman season at Arizona.

The 6-foot-5 guard started in 19 games and was key cog in the Wildcats’ success early in the season, but his role diminished once Allonzo Trier returned from a 19-game suspension.

Simmons, a former five-star recruit out of St. Francis High School, averaged 23.5 minutes per game.

Lauri Markkanen has already formally declared for the NBA Draft, while Trier and Rawle Alkins are expected to consider going pro as well, so Simmons may not be the final Wildcat to decide to test the NBA waters.

Early entrants have until April 23 to declare for the NBA Draft and then have until June 12 to withdraw (unless they sign with an agent, which prevents them from returning to school).

The NBA Combine is set for May 9-14 and the 2017 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 22.
