Arizona baseball: Sophomore pitcher Michael Flynn’s injury not too serious, could pitch this weekend

This is good news for the Wildcats

When Arizona Wildcats sophomore RHP Michael Flynn came out of the team’s Sunday victory over USC, things didn’t look too good.

He did not lift his hand above his waist as he approached the dugout, then reached up and threw his hat to the ground in disgust as he made his way down the steps towards the clubhouse.

Head coach Jay Johnson had characterized it as a forearm deal after the game, and Flynn was not even wearing a glove during pregame warmups on Tuesday. He was also wearing a sleeve over his elbow that you can see in the picture above.

But there was positive news when Johnson gave an update on Flynn’s condition after Tuesday night’s game.

“We are projecting him to go on the trip with us this weekend and be available to pitch,” Johnson said after beating ASU. “So we’re very excited about that. He’s going to throw (Wednesday).”

Flynn has been one of the biggest surprises for Arizona in a good way this year. In eight appearances (three starts), he has a 2-0 record, one save, and has a 2.19 ERA, which is second only to JC Cloney on this team. The .207 batting average Flynn has allowed is also better than everyone else not named Cloney.

The Wildcats head to Pullman this weekend to face the Washington State Cougars. The first of a three-game series is on Friday at 5 PM PT.
