Arizona baseball: Wildcats jump back into top ten of most national rankings

Funny what a 4-0 week does for you

With a perfect 4-0 weekend behind them, the Arizona Wildcats made their way back into the top ten of almost every national poll.

Here’s a look at where they stand now after sweeping the USC Trojans.

The 4-0 week was the perfect response by this team after a tough weekend against the Oregon State Beavers. OSU is now the consensus No. 1 team in the country after they extended their winning streak to 19 games this weekend against Stanford. That is a new OSU school record.

Arizona is now 5-4 in Pac-12 play, and is a perfect 16-0 at home. The team is also top-ten nationally in several offensive statistical categories:

  • Scoring (9.0 runs per game) - 2nd
  • Team batting average (.328) - 4th
  • Team On-base percentage (.424) - 5th
  • Doubles (68) - 9th
  • Triples (13) - 10th

On the individual side, JJ Matijevic is third in the country in doubles (16), and JC Cloney is tied for the NCAA lead in wins (6). Alfonso Rivas also has the 11th-best on-base percentage among all players at .522. Jared Oliva is 12th in RBI (35).

U of A returns to the field on Tuesday night when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils for a single, midweek showdown at Hi Corbett. First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM PT.
