Arizona softball: Wildcats sweep Cal, improve to 9-0 in Pac-12 play

Make that 22 wins in a row for Arizona

Another weekend, another sweep for the Arizona Wildcats softball team.

The fourth-ranked Wildcats swept the California Golden Bears in three games in Berkeley this weekend, improving to 37-1 on the season.

It’s the Wildcats’ third sweep in as many weekends since Pac-12 play started, pushing their winning streak to 22 games.

With a pair of shutouts from Danielle O’Toole and Taylor McQuillin, the Wildcats were able to win the first two games of the series 7-0 and 6-0, respectively.

O’Toole took the circle for the final game of the series, and while she did not throw a shutout, she allowed just one run in seven innings as Arizona beat Cal 6-1 to complete the sweep.

O’Toole is now 19-1 on the season with an 0.74 ERA. McQuillin is 12-0 with a 0.70 ERA.

Nine different Wildcats had RBIs in the series, and Alyssa Palomino, Mo Mercado and Katiyana Mauga each homered once, while freshman first baseman Jessie Harper homered twice (and shattered a Pac-12 Network camera).

Arizona leads the country in home runs. Here are a few highlights from Sunday’s win:

In total, the Wildcats tallied 26 hits and 11 walks in the series.

Arizona will return home next weekend when it will host the Stanford Cardinal (16-15, 0-5 Pac-12) for a three-game series, which will run from Friday to Sunday.

Saturday and Sunday’s games will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
