Arizona baseball recap: Wildcats shutout by Cal State Fullerton 4-0
Can’t get the bats going in midweek games
For the second consecutive week, the Arizona Wildcats played a midweek road game at another top team’s field.
And for the second consecutive week, their bats were silenced.
Cal State Fullerton took this battle of west powers by a score of 4-0. Arizona managed only three hits on the evening. The Wildcats have lost just three times this year, but have been shutout in two of them, and scored a single unearned run in the other one.
After struggling in Sunday’s game, Rio Gomez got the start on the mound for the Wildcats on Wednesday night. He gave up single runs in the third and fourth innings before being lifted for Luke Soroko.
The score stayed 2-0 for a couple innings, but then the Titans picked up another run in the seventh and one more in the 8th. Jay Johnson seems to have been tossed from this game in the 7th inning, which allowed former Titan Sergio Brown to coach third base for the end of the game at his former home.
Temporarily delay of the game here in the B7 as Arizona's head coach has been tossed from the game.

The fact that Arizona is struggling to score runs in midweek games is a bit concerning. These are supposed to be the higher scoring games, but they’ve also been the best opponents that the Wildcats have been facing as well, so it’s kind of hard to read right now.
Alfonso Rivas, JJ Matijevic, and Jared Oliva were the only Wildcats to record hits. This was the first game that Mitchell Morimoto failed to pick up a hit this year.
Arizona is back at it on Friday night when they open Pac-12 play at the UCLA Bruins. Friday night’s game is scheduled to start 7 PM.
