Report: Arizona wide receiver coach Tony Dews leaving for West Virginia

He would become the Mountaineers’ running backs coach

Now that National Signing Day has passed, it appears the Arizona Wildcats will be looking to fill an upcoming void at wide receivers coach.

Tony Dews, Arizona’s current wide receivers coach, is expected to be named the new running backs coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers early next week.

It seems that the hiring will be announced when Dana Holgorsen returns to Morgantown from the Super Bowl.

Dews has been at Arizona since 2012, and also coached with Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia and Michigan for a total of four other seasons. In between these two stints, he spent a year under Todd Graham at Pitt.

If he is indeed named the running backs coach at WVU, this is the first time he will coach that particular position group. Dews has coached tight ends, linebackers, specials teams, plus defensive and offensive line in his past.

This is the second assistant coach to leave Arizona this offseason. Donte Williams departed for Nebraska earlier. Rodriguez did not make any firings or non-renewals on his staff this year. Dews made $293,900 in 2016.
