Arizona football recruiting: 3-star linebacker Bryce Brand decommits from Wildcats

Another loss for the 2017 recruiting class

The Arizona Wildcats have now lost yet another commitment since the season ended with 3-star defensive end/linebacker Bryce Brand announcing his decommitment Friday.

“After long conversation with my family and weighing all the options I’ve decided that it is best for me to decommit from the University of Arizona. I would like to thank the entire staff for all they have done,” Brand wrote on Twitter.

Brand took an official visit to Maryland on Dec. 3 and must have enjoyed his time, as three Crystal Ball experts predicted Brand to flip to the Terrapins soon thereafter.

Brand committed in the middle of the summer, which I did not anticipate at all coming out of IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL). He transferred across the country to Clayton Valley Charter (Concord, CA) for his senior year, where he had a huge impact on defense this past season.

All along, I had pegged him as a potential decommitment candidate. Brand certainly had the potential of landing bigger and better offers, particularly Michigan or Michigan State, since both are closer to his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. And while almost all of the Arizona recruits have been vocal about their commitment on social media, he was always pretty quiet.

Brand had the flexibility of playing both an outside linebacker role or defensive end, but I felt he was more of a lineman given his 6-foot-2, 240-plus pound frame. He was scheduled to enroll early at Arizona.

Arizona is now down to 22 members for the 2017 class, after losing Matt Leo, Darrian McNeal and Delshawn Phillips all in the past week. Continue to keep an eye on Austin Faoliu and Jalen Harris as potential candidates to decommit.
