Game Changing Play: Arizona vs Washington State

The game got out of reach early.

The Arizona Wildcats came to Pullman with slim hopes of a bowl game, but nothing seemed to go their way, and it was evident from the beginning. The first drive had a touchdown throw that was called back and ended in a three-and-out, followed by a punt return into Arizona territory.

The game changing play was in the first quarter, and it was fairly early. There was 10:12 left in the quarter. Washington State just kicked a field goal to go up 3-0. Brandon Dawkins throws into double coverage and gets picked.

Washington State follows it up with another touchdown one minute later and never looked back after that. The Cougars ended up scoring 24 in the first quarter. The final score was 69-7 and Washington State outgained Arizona 612 yards to 286. Not a pretty game.

Arizona’s defense couldn’t stop anything and the special teams play once again wasn’t doing any favors either. Usually the offense is a bright spot of a Rich Rodriguez-coached team, but it looks hopeless most of the time out there. It’s the worst it has been under Rodriguez.

Arizona has three games left to try and end the season on a positive note and it starts with Colorado next week at home.
