Arizona football recruiting: Rhett Rodriguez leads comeback, Jamarye Joiner still undefeated

Some strong performances as we enter the playoffs

Playoff football is under way for the Arizona Wildcat commits, and we’ve had some impressive performances across the board. The staff currently has 27 commitments, two of which are junior college prospects.

There are 21 commits who made a playoff appearance, are likely to make the cut, or have already advanced to the next round.

Rhett Rodriguez leads comeback win

Catalina Foothills will end the season undefeated at home, now heading to Sunrise Mountain next week for the quarterfinals of the 4A playoffs. Rodriguez has complete control of the offense, going 13-21 for 301 yards and two touchdowns.

Jamarye Joiner leads No. 1 Cienega

The 4-star 2018 quarterback commit has led Cienega to a win in the opening round of the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in 5A. The Bobcats are now 11-0 on the season. Joiner had a touchdown run of 25 yards and passing touchdowns of 23, 44, and 30 yards.

Jalen Harris sits out in opening round

According to those close to Desert Ridge, it seems as if it was a bit of a surprise to see that Jalen Harris was not suited up to play in the opening round of the playoffs. I’m being told that he had the flu and is probable to return next week.

Cody Shear big man touchdown alert

OL commit Cody Shear has been implemented as a fullback in a new offensive installment Sheldon High School is bringing out. This week, they gave the big man some love on the goal line.

Rhedi Short and Cathedral remain undefeated

The Cathedral Phantoms are 10-0 for the first time since 2001. This team is loaded with Division I talent.

Bryce Wolma with two touchdowns to lift Saline

Saline has been one of the top schools in Michigan, and in the opening round, Bryce Wolma brought in two touchdowns. This one was good for 63 yards.

Warren Jackson ends senior season in opening playoff round

The 3-6 Alemany Warriors clinched a spot in the playoffs this season, opening with Gardena Serra. Alemany lost by a final score of 35-24. No stats were available for Jackson, but he did snag a touchdown to make this loss look a little better.

Scott Young creates turnover

The 3-star safety commit has probably had a bigger impact for Helix High on offense this season, but here he comes away with an interception to cap off the regular season for the Bulldogs.

Senior night for Joshua Brown and Long Beach Poly

That’s one way to go out.

Darrian McNeal’s versatility showing off

Darrian McNeal is much like Sabino’s Drew Dixon, where they’ll be asked to do anything and everything for their team. McNeal has been all over for Armwood this season, coming up with a 36-yard receiving touchdown and a 52-yard punt return.

Greg Johnson, Hawkins still undefeated

This is clearly one of the best teams in the state, pushing their record to 10-0. But this week it appears as if Hawkins is under investigation for using players who are ineligible. This was a problem in the past for the school as well, so it’ll be interesting to see what comes from it. This is a school that is loaded with top 300 talent and Arizona has been working hard to make it a pipeline.

Higley advances without Bryce Gilbert

Bryce is being held out for the rest of the year but Higley defeated St. Mary’s once again this season by a final of 44-0. Higley is the No. 2 seed in the 4A bracket. If Higley and Catalina Foothills win next week, they will be playing each other in the semifinals.
