Arizona football recruiting: Notable 2018 targets for the Wildcats

Some realistic options for the 2018 class

The 2017 recruiting class for the Arizona Wildcats is just about complete, missing a few key, highly-ranked recruits. With that, the staff has been able to look forward and focus on the 2018 class. Arizona is often one of the first schools to offer a kid, and that can be a big factor when it comes to the decision process.

There have been a lot of 2018 offers sent out lately, and I don’t necessarily promote those because offers can be meaningless. The staff has sent out over 170 offers for the 2017 class and will still likely send some more out in case there are any late additions they really want to close out the class.

For 2018, Arizona coaches have already sent out over 30 offers to recruits. Here, I’ll take a look at some of the more notable guys who the staff could potentially land, where a recruit will have Arizona somewhere in their realistic top six, maybe eight.

It’s still early, so there’s plenty of room for this list to grow. But for now, these are the guys who I see having a legitimate chance of coming to Arizona, which doesn’t include guys like Solomon Tuliaupupu, Brendan Radley-Hiles, Merlin Robertson, or Brian Hightower.

4-star QB Jamarye Joiner

The staff has secured their quarterback of the class with 4-star dual-threat Jamarye Joiner. He’s doing big things at Cienega right now and he was fast to react on his offer. He’s working on a few receivers for this class.

5-star WR Jalen Hall

I hesitate to put Jalen Hall here but he’s in the Hawkins pipeline and that bond between those guys is extremely strong. Arizona is in good position with a lot of the Hawkins recruits, but this one I just don’t see happening no matter how many guys Arizona can pull. Still, he’s someone who I felt should be on the list. Arizona might be a top-six school for him, but nothing more.

5-star S Jaiden Woodbey

This has been Donte’ Williams’ big target this season. Woodbey, a 5-star safety, is set to commit on January 20th, which I feel like is extremely early for a recruit of his caliber. Still, he’ll likely take his official visits.

The staff feels as if they will be in his top four when it comes time to decide. He visited unofficially this summer and was back again for Homecoming. Arizona is in good position and will certainly need some more work to do. But Tucson is certainly a very real possibility.

A commitment from Woodbey would be similar to that of Greg Johnson, an early commitment which will attract other highly sought-after Los Angeles guys while also opening a pipeline to St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA).

4-star WR Marquis Spiker

This one is going to be a battle for Arizona, but with Miguel Reveles and his ties to the Murrieta area, it’s hard to believe that Arizona would not be a legitimate option in a top five or six.

Spiker is a top 100 recruit, ranked 16th in the nation among receivers. He currently holds offers to Arizona State, Michigan, UCLA, and Utah.

4-star S DeAndre Square

Square is another guy I was hesitant about. While I don’t like relying on the Crystal Ball, five picks to Michigan State on a kid from Detroit seems pretty promising. I only include him on the list because of the strong ties to Michigan and Donte’ Williams.

He also holds offers to Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, and Wisconsin.

4-star CB Marcus Johnson

This is the younger brother of top 100 commit Greg Johnson. As long as Greg is committed, I believe both Joseph Lewis and Marcus Johnson will come to Arizona. That’s just how close that group of Hawkins guys are.

While writing this I made my prediction for Marcus to Arizona, mostly because it doesn’t hurt to put a prediction in this early and also because I do not see Greg Johnson leaving Arizona before National Signing Day.

Marcus holds offers to ASU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and USC.

4-star S Aashari Crosswell

Another Hawkins prospect here, and another top 100 prospect, ranked 7th in the nation among all safeties. I only have him on this list because of the Hawkins connection the staff has been able to build.

All of these Hawkins guys will have Nebraska, Tennessee, and USC offers. It seems like most Crystal Ball predictions are already leaning towards USC, but when you look at all the predictions for USC, there would be about 40 guys who USC leads for, and that just won’t end that way.

4-star DE Jeremiah Martin

I’ve been told this is a guy to watch out for. He’s an ultra-athletic defensive end who is also a standout basketball player. I think Arizona ends up with a pretty notable defensive end in the 2017 class and I think 2018 is a class where they already have strong ties to some highly-touted guys.

His notable offers include Michigan and UCLA.

3-star DE Andres Fox

This is a guy I feel pretty good about. SEC schools are coming into the picture and he’s starting to take some unofficial visits in that area as well. He’s teammates with current Arizona commit Troy Young at Mobile Christian.

Fox has had high interest in Arizona for some time now — ever since they offered — and this is a guy who I think is potentially coming to Tucson barring any huge SEC offers.

3-star WR Solomon Ennis

Ennis is a local kid out of North Canyon (Phoenix, AZ) who has had his recruitment blow up since Arizona was the first school that offered him. He’s picked up offers from UCLA, Arizona State, and Utah since. He is a 3-star prospect according to Scout.

3-star QB Re-al Mitchell

I spoke with Mitchell about his offer not too long ago because I was extremely intrigued by the timing of this offer. Arizona already has 4-star quarterback Jamarye Joiner locked in for 2018, but Mitchell is a guy that the staff really seems to want.

Whether the Wildcats take two or one quarterbacks, I wasn’t able to find out. But Mitchell plans to commit sometime this offseason and that would certainly help in landing his St. John Bosco teammate Jaiden Woodbey, who is set to announce on January 20.

3-star OL Jacob Isaia

The offensive lineman out of Bishop Gorman was on an unofficial visit on Homecoming weekend and appears to have quite a few ties to the program. His cousin is Michael Eletise and he’s been in connection with Anu Solomon and Sani Fuimaono.

He’s a Michigan State legacy and he’s been recruited hard by BYU as well. It’s still a good sign to get him on campus and have such close ties. I have MSU as my Crystal Ball pick for now simply because of his legacy.

3-star OL Joey Ramos

Ramos is one of the top in-state offensive lineman who has had some interest in Arizona. It seems he’s a pretty big Wildcat fan, but has yet to receive an offer. He currently holds offers to Iowa State and UCF, with interest from Indiana, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.

Unranked WR Mark McMillian

The wide receiver was on campus for an unofficial visit earlier this season and is getting his feet in the world of recruiting by taking numerous unofficial visits this season. He’s currently at Williams Field High School (Gilbert, AZ), and he’s been sitting behind a core group of senior wideouts after transferring from Hamilton (Chandler, AZ).

BYU and UCLA seem to be two of the schools recruiting him the hardest.

Unranked OL William Dunkle

This is a guy who I’ve heard has been in communication with the staff and has high interest. He still has no offer, but he is someone who is on the verge of landing quite a few. He’s a 6-foot-5, 330 pound offensive lineman in the Chula Vista area.

Unranked safety Kenny Churchwell

Another in-state prospect here, hailing from Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, AZ), who is currently the No. 1 team in the state of Arizona. The Pride have been producing plenty of Division I talent and plenty of safeties on top of that.

He picked up an Arizona offer not too long ago and was on campus for an unofficial visit not too long after that. He is currently picking up interest from Arizona State as well. I also tweeted about him one day and about four Mountain Pointe coaches/accounts started following me in case you were wondering.
