Arizona football: Nick Wilson is likely out for the season, Rich Rodriguez announces
Wilson ran for 320 yards in five games in 2016
It looks like the Arizona Wildcats’ starting running back job will belong to converted wide receiver Samajie Grant for the rest of the season.
On Monday, UA head coach Rich Rodriguez said that he doesn’t see “any foreseeable comeback” for Nick Wilson this season.
Wilson — who has been in and out of the lineup in the past two season with various injuries — has played in five games this season, racking up 320 yards and three touchdowns on 55 carries (5.8 yards per carry).
Grant has started the last two games, carrying the ball 27 times for 141 yards (5.2 YPC). He broke a 50-yard run against Washington State in Saturday’s 69-7 loss.
Rodriguez said Grant is “playing pretty well” for a player that’s only been at the running back position for two weeks.
Rodriguez also announced that wide receiver Cedric Peterson is out for the season, and once against confirmed that running back J.J. Taylor is out for the year.
Grant will make his third start of the season Saturday night when Arizona hosts No. 16 Colorado. Kickoff at Arizona Stadium is set for 8 p.m. MST, and the game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
Rodriguez is 4-0 against Colorado since taking over at Arizona in 2012.
