Arizona basketball: Sean Miller doesn’t say if Allonzo Trier will travel with team to Hawai’i

We all just have to wait and see what happens

With the regular season less than five days away, it’s still unclear if the Arizona Wildcats will have sophomore guard Allonzo Trier in their opener against the Michigan State Spartans.

The Wildcats travel to Honolulu on Wednesday, but whether or not Trier will be on that plane was not addressed after Sunday’s game against Chico State.

“I’m not going to comment on Allonzo,” head coach Sean Miller said when asked if he could say if Trier will travel with the team.

Trier has been held out of Arizona’s two exhibition games as rumors of a season-long suspension continue to swirl around the Wildcats’ top returning player. It appears that Trier has still been practicing with the team.

“Yes, because the guys who can’t play in the game can still practice,” Miller said when asked if only having seven scholarship players available for the exhibition game has impacted practice. “We’re a different team in practice than we are in a game because we have several guys who are good players, returners, with us, but are not in the structure of the game.”

Prior to each of the two exhibition games, Trier has been right there with the team during pregame warmups, chatting with guys like Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Kadeem Allen. He does not put up shots though as he dribbles around the court.

With Chance Comanche now expected to be back after serving a suspension for academic failings, Arizona should be back up to eight scholarship players, but obviously a Trier return would make this team much better than the one we saw against Chico State on Sunday.

We will keep you updated on the situation as it continues to play out. Miller is not expected to have media availability before the team travels to Hawai’i.
