Arizona vs. Utah: Utes to be without starting running back Zack Moss against Wildcats

Now both teams will be relying on running back depth

The Arizona Wildcats will likely be using a wide receiver and their fourth-string running back to carry the ball against the Utah Utes, and now Utah will have less depth at running back as well.

The Utes’ leading rusher, Zack Moss, tweeted out that he will not be playing Saturday night.

Utah uses three running backs pretty evenly, but Moss is their leading rusher and listed as the starter on the Utes’ depth chart this week.

Moss, a true freshman, has only played in four of the team’s five games, carrying the ball 66 times for 309 yards and two touchdowns. He was once committed to Miami before ending up at Utah.

Next up on the depth chart for Utah is junior Troy McCormick. In five games this year, McCormick has 196 rushing yards on 36 carries, good for a team-high 5.4 yards per carry. I’d also expect to see a good amount of Armand Shyne, the team’s second-leading rusher. The junior college transfer has put up 272 rushing yards and three touchdowns in four games this year.

Another notable injury in Utah’s running game this week is starting center J.J. Dielman. He suffered a season-ending lower leg injury in the team’s loss to Cal last week.

Arizona and Utah are scheduled to kick off at 7 PM PT on Fox Sports 1 Saturday night.
