Arizona basketball recruiting: Ira Lee verbally commits to the Arizona Wildcats

Arizona has landed their fourth commitment to the 2017 class.

Ira Lee is coming home.

The top-60 stretch forward has committed to the Arizona Wildcats and Sean Miller, giving them their fourth commit in the 2017 class.

After taking an official visit to Arizona for the Red-Blue game and seeing the admiration and love Tucson has for UA basketball, Lee decided it was something he could not pass up. The 6-foot-8 forward joins an already star-studded recruiting class in Alex Barcello, DeAndre Ayton, and Brandon Randolph.

While the Arizona native has been to games in McKale before, he had never been to a Red-Blue game but understands its significance telling me in August, “I’ve always heard about it. Heard it’s sold out.”

Lee chose Arizona from a final three that also included California and Oregon. With AAU teammates already committed to California, the draw was apparent. However, the fact Sean Miller has been recruiting him since before high school started was too much of a draw and the bond between coach and player was too strong for the other schools to break.

Miller also had some help. Former Wildcats Aaron Gordon, Stanley Johnson, and Solomon Hill hyped up the program as well, Lee said.

The four-star stretch forward ranked 59th overall via 247 Sports, is a high energy, workaholic. He told me earlier in the summer, "I’m always going to play hard…offense, defense. I rarely take plays off."

This is a style of play Miller is known to admire and one that will earn Lee many fans in Tucson.

With Lee on board, Arizona is still expected to add two or even three more recruits, though the rest will probably happen in the spring signing period.
