Arizona football recruiting: Braxton Burmeister becomes San Diego’s all-time yardage leader

The 4-star quarterback is in pursuit of one more record

In the midst of a quarterback controversy for the Arizona Wildcats in 2016, the depth at the position is only going to get stronger this January, as 4-star commit Braxton Burmeister plans to graduate high school early and enroll at Arizona in the spring.

The 6-foot-1, 215 pound signal caller is on his way to making history in his senior campaign. Burmeister just took the crown as San Diego’s all-time yardage leader and is about 700 passing yards short from becoming San Diego’s all-time passing leader as well.

A top-10 dual-threat quarterback, Burmeister has been on a tear this season for La Jolla Country Day School. He’s led them to a 3-1 record overall, suffering their only loss of the season in week one when they traveled to Hawaii to take on ‘Iolani.

Through four games, Burmeister has completed over 62 percent of his passes, going 94/150, accumulating 1,368 passing yards, with 17 touchdowns and just one interception. He’s also added 359 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

His week one performance wasn’t the greatest, but he’s bounced back from that loss, where he suffered a shoulder injury mid-way through the game. In his past three games, he’s thrown 16 touchdowns, no interceptions, and picked up four rushing touchdowns.

Burmeister is currently being trained by former NFL Pro Bowler Jeff Garcia and former first round pick Akili Smith. Burmeister is just an incredibly smart quarterback with some great precision. It’s hard to even think of a comparison for him because he’s so unique; saying he’s a much more refined B.J. Denker doesn’t do him justice.

Personally, I think Braxton Burmeister is the future of Arizona. Anu Solomon will have one more year at Arizona and Brandon Dawkins will have two. Then there’s freshman Khalil Tate, who seems to be increasingly frustrated with his current situation as time goes on.

Once Burmeister arrives on campus, he’s going to elevate the competition level at quarterback immediately.
